The Keyboard moment !
As a result of above mentioned outcomes, I learnt a lesson that guitar was
not my cup of tea. Hence the idea of learning guitar was dropped then and there
only.
Years later after college, seeing my another group of pro-musicians (office colleagues), I
thought playing keyboard seems to be easy and this thought found me home
because of the same two reasons - a. It doesn't hurt fingers the way guitar
does and b. it doesn't sound that bad even if you are a novice and an
additional point c. that I was good at typing in keyboard (seems ridiculous but
it works that way only). I think there was one another reason which got me
picking a keyboard but as of now, I would like to call it “intuition”.
I didn't have the keyboard then and not much the inspiration of buying it,
it was just like I thought that I enjoy music of keyboard and I could learn it.
But as they say, if anything has to happen, it is being planned by destiny.
My colleague-cum-senior-cum-friend – ‘The Lord’ Patil san has resigned on one of those days and decided to pursue higher studies. Few months later, when it was time for him to leave Gurgaon and decide what all things he was going to take with him, what to throw away and what to give to juniors, he was pretty sure that he was not going to take his keyboard with himself. So I asked him to give it to me so that I could try my hands on it and if failed successfully, I would sell that on OLX or at some other platform for him. Being a very nice person, it was impossible for him to deny such a proposal. I bade him farewell and took the keyboard with me.
It’s high time for me to ignore all the excuses and learn keyboard in
literal terms. I started with basics and it was not easy at all. I had to keep
juggling between my mind and fingers and many a times, I ended up being frustrated.
I tried again with some easy songs, they were good but it didn't involve any
learning, it was kinda mugging some patterns and hit the keys with the fingers
in undisciplined manner which I was easily forgetting after couple of days.
With a heavy heart and a burden of it on my head that I was not learning, I
decided to sell if off. So I posted its ad on OLX and in parallel asked another
friend ‘Pradyumn Saripalli’ (Paddy - who plays keyboard very well) to help me
out in finding someone in need of buying this keyboard.
Fortunately he found someone and made him agree to buy this masterpiece. So
when Paddy was at my place, he told me about this buyer's proposal and I said OK
and asked him to finalize the deal as per best of his knowledge. Till date
I don’t know what occurred to Paddy, he said to me – “Dude, at least let me check
once whether it is working properly or not before finalizing the deal to avoid
later issues.”
He picked out the keyboard from the bag, plugged-in the adaptor and started
to play it. At that time, I was not aware which piece of music he was playing,
but the way he played it, I totally fell in love with it. I got so absorbed in
that moment that I exclaimed – “Dude I am not going to sell it. Now you
decide whatever excuse you have to give to him, but I AM NOT GOING TO SELL IT!
EVER!"
I was so inspired and felt so good in those two minutes time that somehow I
felt, I would learn it. This brings peace to me and I am not going
to sell my peace for some bucks.
So here I am, again, learning it with a defined process and not just random.
With time, I could see some progress within me. I am learning basics and
sometimes to avoid boredom or fatigue, I try some section of songs also.
Now the secret - you know what, that day one more thing I had decided that I
would learn -same piece of music that Paddy played that day and would write
about the whole story in one of my blogs. Here I am doing both.
That beautiful piece of music is known as “River Flows in you ".
I tried to learn it (needs lot more improvement) and you can find it in below link –

Needless to say, special thanks to Abhishek Patil san and Paddy for
bringing that out of me, knowingly or unknowingly. I am always thankful to you.
Wish you all the best for individual future prospects. And yes, I owe a party to both of
you.
I will try to continue learning it.
